FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

• When is the anticipated start date?

  June 10, 2024.

• Do I need to have technical theater experience?

  No technical theater experience is required.

• What does “marginalized community” mean?

  Marginalized communities refer to groups of people who experience social, economic and/or political exclusion or discrimination based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, disability or religion.”

• What are the benefits of completing training of the apprenticeship program?

  As an apprentice, you will have three years of:

  • Full health benefits
  • Life insurance
  • Opportunities to create a 401(k)
  • Paid vacation time
  • Paid sick days, and many more full-time employee perks

  After completing technical theater training, apprentices will have the opportunity to become Florida State Certified Stage Technicians and become members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). This experience will introduce apprentices to local and international artists, technicians and companies that can further their careers.

• Do I need to have a college degree?

  No. Only a high school diploma or equivalent is required to apply.

• Can I be a current student and participate as an apprentice?

  It will be hard to do both successfully. Maybe a part-time student.

• Is there an age limit?

  You must be 18 years or older to participate.

• I’m an international student. May I apply?

  This opportunity is open for only US residents.

• What are the physical demands?

  Additional requirements include lifting heavy items up to 50 pounds, working in dark spaces with loud noises, being comfortable with heights and standing for long periods of time.

• How many hours am I required to work?

  You are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including nights and weekends. They may vary per week, according to the project to which you are assigned.

• What will my hourly rate be?

  $15/hr.

• Will you cover my relocation costs?

  Candidates must have a reliable method of transportation or be responsible for relocating to Miami, FL, before starting the apprenticeship at their own cost.

• Do I get to see shows for free or at a discount?

  There will be various opportunities to get discounted tickets and free tickets for shows. No free tickets are guaranteed for each performance.

• Is parking covered?

  The Arsht Center pays half the cost for parking; employees cover the other half. This cost may vary from $25 to $35 per month.

• I can’t start this year. Will applications be available next year?

  Currently, apprenticeship applications open every two years. This schedule is subject to change. Be sure to join our waiting list so that you can be informed when the next applications open.
