The Education & Community Engagement department is in its 16th season of AileyCamp Miami, a full scholarship, six-week summer program that transforms lives. Since its inception in Miami in 2009, over 1,400 Miami-Dade County public middle school students have had the opportunity to participate. The program strives to provide a safe and artistic environment for students to take West African, jazz, modern and ballet dance classes while also learning about nutrition, conflict resolution, drug prevention, critical thinking and other life skills in personal development and creative communication classes.
AileyCamp Miami is a summer day camp where middle school students are immersed in dance as a physical activity that, in addition to expanding aesthetic awareness, fosters athletic ability and skills demanded by any sport. As a result, campers increase confidence, self-esteem, leadership skills and enjoy a variety of social activities.
Every summer, over one hundred students, who reside in Miami-Dade County and are enrolled in the sixth, seventh or eighth grade (ages 11 to 14) at a Miami-Dade County Public School at the time of application, are selected. Prior dance training is not a consideration for admission.
In summer 2023, AileyCamp Miami hosted 120 students for 6 weeks between June 20 and July 29.
Applications are now closed for 2024. AileyCamp Miami 2024 will be held in person at the Arsht Center for six weeks between June 17 and July 27.
